European Youth Dialogue 2014 (EYD) | 8-11 May 2014

On the 8-11 May 2014 at the Warehouse C of Thessaloniki’s harbor European Youth Dialogue 2014 (EYD) will take place, a 4-day meeting of 120 young Europeans, aged between 18-29. EYD is being organized by Heinrich-Böll-Foundation Greece and is a part of the Foundation’s events on networking and mobilizing the European youth, a few weeks before the European elections by sending the message “The youth will take the future in their own hands by reclaiming it!”

EYD is taking place within the framework of European Youth Capital Thessaloniki 2014 in cooperation with the Green European Foundation (GEF), Green Institute Greece, Federation of Young European Greens (FYEG), Young European Federalists (JEF), as well as the local organizations: Thessaloniki NGO Network, PEIRAMA, Creativity Platform and Fix in Art.

The young Europeans participating at this meeting are invited to attend and contribute their ideas and knowledge to the 20 workshops taking place. The topics of the workshops regard among some, the future of Europe and youth participation in political decision-making processes, the social and creative entrepreneurship and economy, migration and minority rights, corruption in education and its impact on party patronage and state capture against youth’s development. The aim of the workshops is to create common actions and initiatives by the youth from many different countries.

On Saturday the 10th of May in the morning, panel-discussions open to the public will be held, on topics to be discussed such as the self-identification of the youth or the so-called Generation Y, their participation in politics, as well as their integration into the labor market. Among others, invited speakers are the President of the European Green Party and MEP, Reihard Bütikofer, MEP Nikos Chrysogelos, CEDEFOP dep. Director, Christian Lettmayr, Prof. of University of Macedonia, Paraskevi Naskou-Perraki, Kiriaki Riga, Senior Human Resources Consultant at Randstad Hellas and Carsten Berg from European Citizen´s Initiative. A welcome salutation will be held by the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris.

The volunteers of the European Youth Capital Thessaloniki 2014 will guide the invited young Europeans through the city and its sightseeings, but they will also visit socially-engaged organizations, creative experiments and cooperative movements. The day will end with a live-music party open to the public, which will be held at the Warehouse C of Thessaloniki’s harbor.
